Teri Hickel has helped shape the city of Federal Way through her passion for leadership development, ability to form and inspire action-oriented networks, and love for community.
Advancing Leadership, More than just Words
Teri recently completed fifteen years as the Executive Director of Advancing Leadership, an organization that transforms people into community leaders. Over 850 adult and youth have graduated from this program gaining personal and professional skills while gaining access to key community issues. She spent a dozen years with the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, serving as an interim CEO.
Dedicated to Kids and Schools
Teri is deeply involved with kids and education. She is a 20-year member of Citizens for Federal Way Schools in a diverse district where students speak over 120 languages. She believes all students deserve the best learning environments and tools to ensure future success.
Given the “Key to the City” as Outstanding Volunteer
Her community awards include the “Key to the City,” school district outstanding volunteer of the year (4 times), Seahawks Community Quarterback award, Federal Way Community Garden Golden Shovel for outstanding board work, a nomination for citizen of the year, and more.
A Local Graduate, Deep Local Roots
Teri graduated from Puyallup High School, where she served as the Daffodil Princess. She met her husband Tim at a high school track meet. They have two daughters working in professional careers. Tim is a Husky; Teri a Coug, proving the ability to work across lines.
