Matt is currently the Director and Associate Professor of the Cyber Security Division at Columbia Basin College (CBC) and just completed two years on the Kennewick City Council.
In his position on the city council, Matt has hit the ground running and is serving the community on the most committees of any councilman. Matt presently serves as vice chair of the Benton Franklin Council of Governments, Benton Franklin Council of Governments Policy Advisory Committee (PAC), Benton Franklin Council of Governments Surface Transportation Program Committee, Benton Franklin Council of Governments Tri-Mats Policy Advisory Committee, Kennewick Focus, Tri-Cites Regional Public Facilities District and Infrastructure and Operations Committee, Council Interview Committee, and Infrastructure and Operations Committee. Matt is also an alternate on the Benton Franklin Community Action Committee, Block Grant Advisory Committee and Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce Committee. Matt was recently elected by his peers to be the next Vice President of the Good Roads and Transportation Association and Secretary/Treasurer, TriCities Regional Public Facilities District.
Matt is a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) with 21 years of active duty service as a helicopter pilot, having served a majority of his tour at Cyber Operations positions in the US and overseas. In recent assignments with the Army’s Network Enterprise Technology Command, Matt was the lead Program Manager for the $30M Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Host Based Security System (HBSS). This was the first program that helped create the US Army Cyber Command.
Having been raised in Kennewick, Matt distinguished himself early in his career— was commissioned Active Duty in the US Army Aviation branch in 1990 earning the honor of ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate from Eastern Washington University. Matt’s assignments included service in Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, and Kansas with deployments to Korea, Kuwait, Iraq, and Israel. During his tour, Matt completed three Command positions and served on four General Officer Staffs, including his last one with the Chief Information Officer/G6 of the Army.
Prior to this role at CBC, Matt served as a Project Manager for Energy Northwest, Columbia Generating Station and worked as a contracting officer for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District in addition to founding Bravocon IT Consulting Services LLC. In his spare time Matt volunteers as the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Mens Club, Tri-Cities Water Follies Air Show Director and has various volunteer positions with the Sunrise Rotary Club, Tri-City Cancer Center Men’s Club, Tri-Cities Junior Achievement, Military Officer’s Association of America – Lewis & Clark Chapter, Kennewick School District, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
