Dan was born and raised in Snohomish County. He graduated Shorecrest High School and attended Shoreline Community College.
He worked for many years in the private sector in the construction industry. He had experience with budgets, project planning, human resources and the barriers employers face with state government rules and regulations.
Dan has served in the House of Representatives since 2003. He was recently elected to serve as the Minority Leader of the House Republican Caucus. In this position, he is responsible for leading the adoption of the caucus agenda and serves as the lead negotiator for the caucus with the governor and the other caucuses.
During his time in the Legislature, Dan has received awards and recognition from the Washington Fire Commissioners Association, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Washington Farm Bureau, the Association of Washington Business, the Joint Government Affairs Committee composed of Monroe, South Snohomish County and Everett Chambers of Commerce.
Dan and his wife Janis make their home near Monroe. They have three children, two of whom are adults. Dan is involved in his church, and enjoys traveling, camping and spending time with his family in the great outdoors.
