About Mark James

Mark James has lived in Snohomish County for nearly 30 years and is currently a City of Marysville Councilmember serving on the Finance, Government Affairs, Community Development Block Grant committee and was elected by his fellow councilmembers to sit on the Snohomish County Health Board and the Law & Justice Council. Additionally, Mark holds an appointed position on the Snohomish County Planning Commission spending considerable time on countywide land use policy issues.

Mark is a U.S. Army Veteran. He has been a local business owner for over a decade. Prior to founding James Marketing, Inc. (Hometown Values Savings Magazine), Mark worked with our local medical professional community as a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist.

As an active volunteer, Mark dedicates time to various organizations including Marysville Sunrise Rotary, Marysville Food Bank, Salvation Army and helps occasionally with his wife’s Soroptimist International group.

Mark is a man of faith. A husband. A father. A veteran and a committed, involved community leader. Mark and his wife Renae are both proud U.S. Army Veterans and have made Marysville their home for the past 30 years where they raised their boys Jonathan, Matthew, and Joshua who all graduated from Marysville Getchell High School. These young men have taken up the family legacy of service to others by serving in Law Enforcement and Public Service careers.

Mark enjoys spending time with his family, photography, traveling and day hiking.

As a Councilmember, Mark has earned the Certificate of Municipal Leadership where he received credits in each of these four areas:

  • Roles, responsibilities and legal requirements
  • Public sector resource management
  • Community planning and development
  • Effective local leadership

He is now part of a team of local leaders, visionaries, and citizens passionate about making the right recommendations and decisions regarding issues that affect the larger community.
