Greg was raised in Clark County and the 18th Legislative District. He and his family are longtime residents of Battle Ground. He is a small business owner and attorney serving Clark County and a member of the Battle Ground Planning Commission. Greg’s life experiences serve as his motivation to run: “My wife and I chose to raise our kids here – I am running to make sure families have good jobs, low taxes, and safe communities.”
Greg’s campaign will be focused on three quality of life issues: (1) Increasing local job opportunities; (2) making sure families can keep their hard-earned money; and (3) ensuring safe, livable communities while improving access to mental health resources. “As a child, I saw how early my dad had to leave home in the morning to get to work in Portland on time – I want to bring more jobs here so families can spend more time together and less on commuting.” Likewise, Greg has seen firsthand wasteful and excessive government regulations as a member of the Battle Ground Planning Commission and as a small business adviser: “At a time when a family’s monthly grocery bill has increased by $100 or more, we must cut needless and wasteful government spending and taxes so families can keep more of their hard-earned money.” Finally, Greg’s experience in working with the mentally ill has shaped his view of criminal justice: “We need to get rid of the laws that handcuff our police and instead increase penalties for repeat, violent offenders. At the same time, we need recognize the enormous mental health strain our kids have experienced for the past several years and ensure that they have access to the help they need in order to live life to the fullest.”
Greg is married to Mari and the father of a fifth grader and first grader. He is the owner of Gregory S. Cheney, PLLC and of counsel at Rylander & Associates, PC. He has a B.A. in History (Honors) from Walla Walla University, an M.A. in U.S. History from George Washington University, and J.D. from Seattle University. He is a former board member of NAMI SWWA.
