Tuition hikes above 7 percent might be doomed by GOP opposition

Democrats might have a tough time getting the votes for the 14 percent yearly tuition increases that Gov. Chris Gregoire threw her support behind Tuesday. Republican leaders in the House and Senate just met with reporters, and they don’t like the idea.

New state budget includes job cuts, tuition increases

After months of behind-the-scenes negotiations and speculation, the state Senate on Monday proposed a two-year plan to bridge Washington’s $9 billion budget shortfall. As predicted, it includes some dramatic cuts.
